New Zealand Federation of Roller Sports
Official governing body for the sport of roller skating in New Zealand. Disciplines include artistic roller skating, precision roller skating, inline speed skating, inline roller hockey (puck and inline skates), and traditional roller hcokey (ball and quad roller skates). New Zealand has participated in the Roller Skating World Championships since 1955. roller hockey on inlines, and inline speed skating. (Is Skate NZ the same organization that was originally known as the New Zealand Roller Skating Association?)

New Zealand Roller Skating Association
The New Zealand Roller Skating Association (NZRSA) was founded in Christchurch in 1937. In 1954 a group of skaters split off from the NZRSA to formed their own skating association. Beetween 1937 and 1954 the NZRSA organized the national roller skating championships in New Zealand but after 1954 two different groups organized separate NZ national championships. (for more information see ARSANZ below).

Amateur Roller Skating Association of New Zealand
The Amateur Roller Skating Association of new Zealand (ARSANZ) was formed in April of 1954 when five roller skating clubs left the New Zealand Roller Skating Association (NZRSA) to form their own organization. The new association organized their own New Zealand National Roller Skating Championships which were held between 1955 and 1965. I believe that during this time about 2/3 of New Zealand's skaters remained affiliated with the NZRSA and about 1/3 affiliated themselves with the ARSANZ. If you know anything more about the history of roller skating federations in New Zealand please post a note in the SkateLog Forum or send a message to the email address on our contacts page.
