Roller Skating Organizations in the United States
by Topic
Information about roller skating organizations in the United States,
including federations, clubs, and trade associations..
United States Roller Sports Federation
The official name of the governing body for roller skating in the
United States is the United States Amateur Confederation of Roller
Skating, but it is also known as USA Roller Sports, USARS, and the United
States Roller Sports Federation. USARS governs
the sports of artistic roller skating, inline roller hockey,
hard ball roller hockey, inline speed skating, and quad speed roller skating
in the United States. USARS is starting to get more involved in the
sport of roller derby and they have had some discussions
with aggressive inline skating and skateboarding associations and federations.
The USARS National Headquarters is located in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Roller Skating Association International
Roller Skating Association International is also
known as RSA and it is a trade organization for
roller skating rink owners, operators, suppliers,
judges, and coaches. RSA's national headquarters
is located on Corporate Drive in Indianapolis,
Indiana. I believe that in the early days, RSA,
or one of it's previous incarnations was the
U.S. governing body for roller skating and that
USARS was spun out at one point because of Olympic
Committee conflict of interest issues. Is this
true? Can anyone tell us more about it the history
of RSA and it's connection to USARS?

Was USARS a Spin-Off Organization of RSA?
One of the Predecessors of USA Roller Sports:
United States Amateur Roller Skating Association
This now defunct organization was founded in 1939
under the United States Amateur Athletic Union. At
the time there was another organization organizing roller
skating competitions, the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association,
founded two years earlier, in 1937. Both of those
groups held separate national championships until
1972 when the the present day U.S. Amateur Confederation of
Roller Skating (USA Roller Sports) was formed. This Web site
is dedicated to building and maintaining a historic record
of the now dissolved U.S. Amateur Roller Skating Association's
skaters, coaches, and events from 1942 to 1971.
