Facts About Ball Roller Hockey
Facts about the history and rules of ball roller hockey.
The first recorded game of ball roller hockey was
played in 1878 at the Denmark Rink in London, England.
At that time the game was knfown as roller polo.
The United States National Roller Polo League was formed
1882 and its headquarters was in Dayton Ohio. The league
had teams in seven cities.
Today ball roller hockey is played in more then
50 countries.
There are separate world championship events for the following divisions:
Senior A Level Men, Senior B Level Men, Ladies, and Juniors.
(question: are juniors men only? Is there also a school boys world
championships?)
There are several continental cup tournaments.
The United States use to be divided into six hardball hockey regions:
Northwest, Southwest, North Central, South Central, Northeast,
and Southeast. I believe there are now only three U.S. divisions:
East, West, and Central. Each region has a regional representative
who can provide information about seminars, tournaments, and equipment.
Every year the United States has a National Championship event
that is open to anyone with the proper equipment, a USARS Hockey
Card and "the team entry" (is the latter a form?). Divisions
in the U.S. National Championships include Pee Wee, Midget,
Freshman, Junior, Ladies, and Senior Bronze, Silver, and Gold
(are the bronze silver and gold men only?).
Ball hockey is a non-contact sport.
Agility, tight turns, spins, quick starts and stops.
There ten players per team but only four players
and a goalie can be on the floor at the same time.
Games have two periods and each period lasts 15 to 25 minutes,
depending on the division.
The "Advantage Rule" of ball roller hockey says the play should
continue if stopping the game would benefit a rule violator's
team.

The ball can only be moved using the stick.
No ball kicking is allowed.
The game is almost always played on quad roller skates
but it can also be played on inline skates.
